Abstract

There are reports in the literature that develop methods and procedures for psychoeducation of family members in the intervention process of patients with neurological diseases. The International Center for Neurological Restoration (CIREN) has a treatment design that we name the Neurological Restoration Program, within which family psychoeducation is a key tool for therapeutic success. With the aim of developing a methodology for the performance of the multidisciplinary work team, which guarantees effective psychoeducational treatment for family members and/or caregivers of children with neurological diseases, this protocol was carried out during the year 2021. The protocol provides the components of the psychoeducational intervention; some of the problems reported and/or identified in the relatives and/or caregivers of children with neurological diseases; approaches in psychoeducational intervention, basic and pedagogical principles for intervention, responsibilities. Procedures for diagnosis of needs, planning and implementation of the intervention; the resources to be used and the evaluation and control of the protocol. The action protocol proposed for the psychoeducational intervention to relatives and/or caregivers of children with neurological diseases will allow optimizing the comprehensive rehabilitation process for these patients and consequently their families.
