Neuropsychological profile, anatomic and functional and disability in pediatric MS

Introduction: The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) it is an inflammatory chronic and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system, in which is known that from their initial phase it can show alterations of some cognitive functions. The present work approaches some of the possible neuropsychological alterations observed in the pediatric form of MS." To describe the profile of patient pediatric with EM and their possible association with the clinical disability evaluated by the scale of Kurzke, the images of magnetic resonance (MRI) and the neurophysiological technics.
Methods: The four presented cases were assisted at the International Center of Neurological Restoration, with diagnosis of MS relapse-remission. The study included the analyses of attention functions, memory, language, visospacial abilities and frontal executive functions, as well as their possible association with the lesions observed by magnetic resonance and the alterations in the sensitive evoked potentials.
Results: All the patients presented alterations at cognitive function, with major affectation of memory functions and the frontal executive functions, besides others alterations in the neurophysiological studies and the magnetic resonance.
Conclusions: The highest psychic functions were affected in all patients, without apparent relationship with the localization of the lesions observed at MRI, and with the degree of functional affectation from the evaluation neurophysiological, still in the cases with mild-moderate disability.
