Estado actual de los procedimientos intervencionistas en la mama

Abstract

El imagenólogo especialista que trabaja la mama ha ido adquiriendo nuevas responsabilidades, que incluyen la detección precoz del cáncer de mama, el diagnóstico preciso mediante modalidades de imágenes como la mamografía, la ultrasonografía y la resonancia magnética. A esto se añade: la biopsia percutánea, la valoración de la extensión local y la respuesta a la quimioterapia neoadyuvante, mediante la resonancia magnética y en la evolución de las pacientes tratadas. Los procedimientos intervencionistas han completado su participación. Con las técnicas de intervencionismo diagnóstico como: la citología por aguja fina, la biopsia por aguja gruesa, la biopsia asistida por vacío, la biopsia escisional percutánea y la galactografía. Además del intervencionismo terapéutico donde se incluyen: la extirpación con dispositivos de biopsia percutánea, la extirpación mediante técnicas de ablación térmica, la inyección de radiotrazador para localización de ganglio centinela y el marcado tumoral para quimioterapia primaria.

Su contribución al diagnóstico precoz y certero, a la realización de intervenciones quirúrgicas más adecuadas y el seguimiento evolutivo de las pacientes tratadas por distintas modalidades; hacen que su participación sea casi imprescindible en el manejo general de esta enfermedad.
