Asociación entre hipertensión y enfermedad periodontal

Abstract

 

 

La hipertensión se define cuando un paciente tiene una presión arterial sistólica superior a 140 mmHg y una presión arterial diastólica superior a 90 mmHg y es hoy un problema de salud pública en todo el mundo. Se conoce que es una enfermedad crónica, multifactorial, asintomática, causada por disposiciones hereditarias y factores de riesgo externos como obesidad, estrés, consumo excesivo de alcohol y sal. Las enfermedades periodontales son un grupo de cuadros clínicos de origen infeccioso e inflamatorio, que afectan a las estructuras de soporte del diente y se clasifican en dos amplios grupos: gingivitis y periodontitis. Según estudios recientes, la salud bucal deficiente puede interferir con el control de la tensión arterial en personas diagnosticadas con hipertensión. Debido a ello se realizó una revisión de 17 artículos, incluído un libro en formato digital y dos guías prácticas, con temas estomatológicos, donde se describen y se relacionan ambas enfermedades. De igual forma se advierte la necesidad del estomatólogo general de conocer estas penfermedades y su asociación a fin de prevenir los efectos agravantes de ambas.
