La enfermedad periodontal y su relación con la insuficiencia renal crónica
Abstract
La enfermedad periodontal, primera causa de pérdida dentaria en el adulto, comprende un conjunto de lesiones de etiología infecciosa, que puede causar inflamación crónica. La insuficiencia renal crónica es una condición, en la cual los riñones son lesionados y no permiten la filtración de la sangre, pudiendo acumular toxinas que afectan múltiples sistemas, incluyendo la boca. Dentro de las principales manifestaciones bucales, se encuentran: la xerostomía, inflamación gingival, queilitis angular, entre otros. Debido a la asociación que se ha establecido entre estas dos entidades, se ha establecido que, en la enfermedad periodontal, existe un “estado inflamatorio permanente” que agrava el pronóstico de la insuficiencia renal crónica.Downloads
