“La aspirina, un remedio para muchos males”

Abstract

Todos conocemos los efectos que posee la aspirina como analgésico, antipirético y anti-inflamatorio. Hace varios años se sospechaba que también tenía efectos benéficos en los individuos con cardiopatía isquémica, lo cual se confirmó con los resultados del estudio ISIS-2 recomendando su uso en la fase aguda y hasta 30 días posteriores. Después de realizar una amplia revisión encontramos que a dosis bajas y por períodos prolongados es efectiva en la prevención secundaria reduciéndose los riesgos de infarto cardíaco no fatal, accidente cerebrovascular no fatal y muerte vascular, en hombres y mujeres de mediana y avanzada edad, hipertensos o no, diabéticos o no. La  profilaxis primaria debe estar dirigida a las personas mayores de 50 años con factores de riesgos cardiovasculares; no se ha demostrado beneficio en individuos aparentemente saludables. En esta revisión se mencionan los principales efectos adversos de la aspirina y sobre otras enfermedades.
