Treatment alternatives for anxiety from natural and traditional medicine with Verbesina persicifolia
Keywords:
Anxiety, Medicinal plants, Anxiolytics, Natural MedicineAbstract
Introduction: Anxiety disorders are currently the most prevalent psychiatric disorders worldwide. Natural and traditional medicine can play an important role in obtaining effective treatments with fewer adverse effects than traditional treatments.
Objective: To argue the importance of studying the anxiolytic effects of Verbesina persicifolia as a natural and traditional medicine treatment for anxiety in humans.
Methods: A narrative bibliographic review was carried out, which involved consulting multiple investigations through the Google Scholar search engine in databases such as ScieLo, Redalyc, Pumbed and Scopus. The terms that allowed the search for the referenced and cited information were: anxiety; medicinal plants; anxiolytics; natural medicine. The search strategy consisted of including articles published in English or Spanish and with scientific validity demonstrated from systematic reviews, meta-analyses, quasi-experimental or experimental studies.
Development: anxiety is a public health problem that affects the quality of life of those who suffer from it. The use and consumption of plants for their medicinal properties plays an important role in the search for new active ingredients for the treatment of various ailments that affect health and, together with the applications of nanotechnology for the improvement of biological activity, offer an important alternative for study. Pharmacological studies on Verbesina persicifolia have shown that it has anxiolytic-type effects in animal models of anxiety. Conclusions: it is important to improve and maintain the anxiolytic efficacy of Verbesina persicifolia for anxiety in humans through the use of pharmaceutical technology.
