Extruded lumbar disc herniation treated with percutaneous discolysis with ozone
Keywords:
discolysis, ozone, herniated discAbstract
Introduction: Percutaneous ozone discolysis is used successfully in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation.
Objetive: To describe a case of extruded lumbar disc herniation treated with percutaneous ozone discolysis.
Clinical case: A 43-year-old patient with extruded lumbar disc herniation who presented with acute sciatica and paresis in the right L5 territory and refused surgical
treatment despite being a good candidate for it. Percutaneous intradiscal and foraminal ozone were applied in one session. At 10 days, the neural pain disappeared and the lumbosacral spine MRI performed at three months showed significant changes in relation to hernia resorption.
Conclusions: Percutaneous intradiscal ozone administration is a safe treatment for herniated discs and relieves pain and all other symptoms and signs that accompany radicular compression syndrome; in addition to reducing the volume of the herniated disc.
