Pterigión. Aspectos clínicos y factores asociados

Abstract

El pterigión es una enfermedad oftalmológica frecuente a nivel mundial, considerada como un problema de salud pública, debido a su alta incidencia y los costos para su tratamiento, pudiendo presentarse complicaciones. Se hizo una revisión temática sobre aspectos clínicos del pterigión y los factores asociados, basada en la bibliografía especializada, que posee información vigente y relevante, especialmente publicada en los últimos 5 años. La búsqueda se realizó en las bases de datos: Pubmed, Google Scholar, y Medline, seleccionándose descriptores en español e inglés. Predominó el sexo masculino y el grupo de edad de 41 a 60 años y la localización nasal o interna de la entidad clínica. Entre los agentes físicos asociados al pterigión se hallaron las radiaciones solares, el ambiente de polvo y viento. El pterigión se encuentra relacionado con frecuencia al sexo masculino e íntimamente con ocupaciones de riesgo, vinculadas a la exposición prolongada de factores físicos y químicos.
