Neuroestimulación nasal para el tratamiento del ojo seco. Una nueva opción

Abstract

El reflejo nasolagrimal regula al alza la producción lagrimal tras la estimulación química o mecánica de la mucosa nasal El arco reflejo nasolagrimal comienza en los nervios sensoriales que recubren la cavidad nasal (el brazo aferente) y termina con la inervación parasimpática de los principales tejidos objetivo que contribuyen a la producción lagrimal (el brazo eferente). Se ha desarrollado un neuroestimulador lagrimal intranasal para inducir la producción lagrimal normal por medio de la estimulación del reflejo nasolagrimal. El neuroestimulador lagrimal intranasal TrueTear™ (Allergan, Parkway Parsippany, NJ, EE. UU.) recibió recientemente la aprobación de la FDA con una indicación aprobada para proporcionar un aumento temporal en la producción lagrimal durante la neuroestimulación en pacientes adultos. Una serie de estudios adicionales están en curso, y los resultados están a la espera de publicación. Este dispositivo constituye una nueva herramienta para el tratamiento del ojo seco patología que afecta a más del 15 % de la población mundial.
