Estomatitis subprótesis en el adulto mayor. Reporte de 2 casos
Abstract
La vejez es un fenómeno que forma parte del ciclo vital del ser humano, como la etapa final del proceso de desarrollo, donde se continúan manifestando cambios biológicos, psicológicos y sociales característicos; dentro de ellos, el edentulismo. Las personas edentes parciales o totales y con rehabilitación de prótesis deficiente ven mermada su calidad de vida, lo que conlleva que acudan a los servicios de estomatología para recibir una atención integral que les devuelva el bienestar de salud perdido. Se presentan dos casos clínicos de pacientes adultos mayores, desdentados parciales, con estomatitis subprotésis, relacionadas fundamentalmente con el largo tiempo de uso de prótesis removibles acrílicas desajustadas e higiene bucal deficiente. Las pacientes recibieron el tratamiento adecuado y se les rehabilitó con prótesis, contribuyendo a restablecer la estética, así como la función masticatoria y la fonación, mejorando considerablemente la salud bucal y general, así como la calidad de vida de las mismas.
