Satisfacción personal estética y maloclusión en adolescentes

Abstract

Introducción. Maloclusión es cualquier alteración del crecimiento óseo del maxilar o la mandíbula y/o de las posiciones dentarias que impidan una correcta función del aparato masticatorio. Métodos. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal. en 451 alumnos de la Escuela Secundaria Básica “Alejo Carpentier”, municipio Plaza de la Revolución, curso 2017-2018; se tomó una muestra no probabilística y por criterios de 243 adolescentes. Se realizó un estudio clínico individual, para identificar los componentes del índice de estética dental y se aplicó el test psicológico, denominado modificación de la escala Dembo–Rubinstein, para conocer la autoevaluación de la población en estudio. Se utilizaron medidas de resumen para variables cualitativas y cuantitativas. Resultados. La mayoría de los adolescentes estudiados tuvo necesidad de tratamiento de ortodoncia. La autovaloración que predominó fue la media, sobresaliendo el sexo masculino y la edad de los 13 años, como los grupos más afectados. A lo largo del estudio, en la medida que se acentuaba la severidad de la maloclusión, la autovaloración de los adolescentes afectados fue baja. Conclusiones. Hubo un predominio de la autovaloración media, con cifras superiores en el sexo masculino.
