Enfermedad periodontal inmunoinflamatoria crónica en pacientes con aterosclerosis. Estudio preliminar

Abstract

Introducción. Estudios realizados señalan que la enfermedad periodontal inmunoinflamatoria crónica se encuentra estrechamente relacionada con la aterosclerosis, lo que hace necesario profundizar en estos aspectos.
Métodos. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo de corte transversal en cien pacientes, de ambos sexos, entre 35 años y 70 años de edad, con diagnóstico médico confirmado de aterosclerosis (grupo estudio) y 50 sin manifestaciones, ni antecedentes de esta entidad (grupo control). Las principales variables estudiadas fueron situación periodontal y factores aterogénicos presentes.
Resultados. La aterosclerosis fue más frecuente en el sexo femenino del grupo de estudio; con mayor frecuencia y gravedad de la enfermedad periodontal inmunoinflamatoria crónica y pérdida de inserción periodontal que los del grupo control. Los factores de riesgo aterogénicos se encontraron presentes en ambos grupos, destacándose el tabaquismo, el sedentarismo y el sobrepeso.
Conclusiones. Los pacientes con aterosclerosis presentaron mayor gravedad de la enfermedad periodontal inmunoinflamatoria crónica y pérdida de inserción periodontal, que el grupo control.
