Aplicación de la radioterapia intraoperatoria en pacientes con cáncer de mama

Abstract

La radioterapia intraoperatoria, es una modalidad de tratamiento en oncología que permite administrar altas dosis de irradiación terapéutica en el quirófano mediante la utilización de un acelerador miniaturizado portátil diseñado específicamente para radioterapia intraoperatoria con electrones. Los tratamientos de radioterapia intraoperatoria han demostrado su utilidad en diferentes enfermedades neoplásicas, básicamente consiste en administrar una elevada dosis de radiación terapéutica con un equipo portátil, en el tumor o lecho quirúrgico posresección a través de la incisión practicada para el abordaje quirúrgico, con mejorías en la actividad asistencial por limitar la frecuencia de los pacientes a las instituciones hospitalarias, además de los beneficios de las pacientes al aplicar esta técnica. Nuestra revisión se basa en los resultados de la aplicación de la técnica de radioterapia intraoperatoria en pacientes con cáncer de mama comparados con la radioterapia externa.
