Ozono como coadyuvante en el tratamiento de la osteomielitis crónica

Abstract

Se realizó un ensayo clínico fase I en 30 pacientes con osteomielitis crónica en el Centro de Investigaciones Médico-Quirúrgicas, con el objetivo de evaluar la acción sistémica y local del ozono, basado en su efecto sobre la activación de los mecanismos de transportación y utilización biológica del oxígeno, así como su acción bactericida y esterilizante, mediante aplicación local; se analizó además la presencia de reacciones adversas o tóxicas. Se utilizó el O3 por gran autohematoterapia a una dosis de 10 mg en 18 pacientes, en 12 pacientes se administró por vía intramuscular (0.8 mg/l) durante 15 sesiones en aproximadamente 1 mes, mientras se efectuaban los procederes quirúrgicos. Se adicionó tratamiento local en forma de copa de succión o bota de polietileno (40-60 mg/l) en 15 pacientes junto al proceder sistémico. Las curaciones se hicieron con aceite ozonizado. Obtuvieron evaluación excelente 18 pacientes para un 60%, de buena, cinco pacientes que representó un 15%, regular, cuatro (13,3%) y mal tres pacientes (10%). No se presentaron reacciones adversas, ni tóxicas por el uso simultáneo de las variadas formas de aplicación del ozono en un mismo paciente. Se concluye que el uso del ozono demostró ser efectivo en el tratamiento de esta afección cuando se asocia a los procederes quirúrgicos habituales.
