Left popliteal aneurysm. Case presentation
Keywords:

Introduction: Peripheral aneurysms are uncommon, among which popliteal artery aneurysms stand out, representing 70- 80 % of them. Surgery is the treatment of choice for patients with symptomatic aneurysms, in asymptomatic ones larger than 2 cm, or in those that are found to be thrombosed during imaging examination.
Objective: To present a rare case of left popliteal artery aneurysm. Clinical case: A 67-year-old male patient presented came to the emergency department due to pain and swelling in the left popliteal fossa, which was noted on physical examination, to be approximately 5 cm in diameter with a pulse and expansion. Computed tomography angiography of the aorto-iliac-femoral-popliteal and distal sectors demonstrated the presence of the left popliteal aneurysm at the level of the first portion, non-thrombosed. The patient underwent surgery using an open technique and posterior approach, performing an aneurysmectomy. The patient underwent surgical intervention using an open technique and a posterior approach; an aneurysmectomy with an inverted internal saphenous vein graft was performed, and the evolution was favorable.
Conclusions: Popliteal aneurysms are rare and generally require surgical treatment. An unusual case was presented, of a patient with a symptomatic popliteal aneurysm that required aneurysmectomy with interposition of a saphenous vein graft.
