Breast cancer and carcinomatous lymphangitis in a young patient
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Introduction: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women with a high mortality rate. It presents with a mean age of 56 years, and the highest risk is between 40 and 60 years of age. However, in young patients under 40 years of age, it ranks first in incidence internationally.
Objective: To demonstrate the clinical and radiological characteristics of a young patient with breast cancer.
Clinical Case: We present the case of a 26-year-old woman with an apparent medical history who was seen and diagnosed at the Malabo Regional Hospital by the Radiology and Oncology Departments for an enlarged, indurated breast with signs of phlogiston in her right breast. Physical examination revealed enlarged right breast with skin edema, nipple retraction, a hard, irregular tumor, and multiple axillary lymphadenopathy. In the left breast, nipple inversion and mild central skin edema were observed, along with a hard, irregular, mobile nodule and axillary lymphadenopathy. Imaging studies confirmed the presence of breast cancer with metastatic spread to the lung in the form of carcinomatous lymphangitis. The patient's general condition was stable and she has survived for 8 months with palliative care.
Conclusions: Technological advances have made it easier to understand the molecular details of cancer cells, allowing for the development of personalized and effective treatments. Therefore, in this case, it is essential to strengthen early diagnosis protocols and oncospecific treatment.
