Abstract

La desproporción entre candidatos a trasplante y disponibilidad real de
órganos es en la actualidad la principal limitante para ofrecer este proceder y sus beneficios. Alternativas como la utilización de donantes vivos y donantes con criterios expandidos son hoy una realidad. La utilización de donantes de órganos de edad avanzada es una opción. En el artículo se revisa el efecto del envejecimiento sobre distintos órganos, así como los resultados de trasplantes renales y hepáticos con la utilización de donantes (vivos o fallecidos) de edad avanzada. Se comenta sobre aspectos que deben ser controlados al utilizar un do nante de edad avanzada. En conclusiones la utilización de adultos mayores como donantes potenciales de órganos es una estrategia v álida y real para intentar disminuir la desproporción entre candidatos a trasplantes y donantes reales. Una valoración adecuada de los órganos, la utilización de maquinas de perfusión y una correcta selección donante - receptor permite resultados satisfactorios pos trasplante.
