Conocimiento sobre la muerte encefálica y actitud hacia la donación de órganos en población no sanitaria de La Habana, Cuba

Abstract

Introducción. El conocimiento de una población sobre la muerte encefálica puede permitir actitudes positivas hacia la donación de órganos tras la muerte.
Métodos. Se encuestaron 200 personas, 45.5% sexo masculino y 54.5% sexo femenino, con una edad media 45.11 años. Se determinó la actitud hacia la donación de órganos tras la muerte de un familiar o propia. El conocimiento sobre la muerte encefálica se evaluó mediante la pregunta: ¿Existe alguna posibilidad de que una persona con muerte encefálica pueda recuperarse y vivir?
Resultados. 81% de los encuestados donaría sus órganos y 66% los de un familiar. Solo 40% de los encuestados conocía el concepto de muerte encefálica. En el grupo de negativa a la donación personal existió un predominio en el grupo sin conocimiento de la muerte encefálica (28 vs 10, p=0.056), al igual que en el grupo de negativa a la donación familiar (39 vs 29, p=0.583).
Conclusiones. La población sin conocimiento sobre la muerte encefálica suele tener en su mayoría una actitud negativa hacia la donación de órganos. Desarrollar estrategias de educación sobre la muerte encefálica puede actuar de forma positiva en la actitud favorable hac ia la donación de órganos.
